- Comber Earlies are among the most prized new potatoes in the British Isles — grown in the fertile soils around Strangford Lough and harvested from late May, they have a distinctive sweet, nutty flavour and have held Protected Geographical Indication status since 2012. The town's linen industry, which flourished in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, was powered by the Comber River and employed much of the local population. Scrabo Tower, the prominent landmark on the hill above the town, was built in 1857 as a memorial to the third Marquess of Londonderry.
