About Gifford

  • Yester Castle's Goblin Ha' — an underground chamber of 13th-century legend — lies in the woods just outside the village, one of East Lothian's best short walks.
  • Gifford was the birthplace of John Witherspoon, the only clergyman to sign the American Declaration of Independence.
  • The Goblin Ha' Hotel takes its name — and its ghost stories — from the castle below; Joe Maxi Taxis covers weddings and functions there year-round.
