About Linthorpe
- The Linthorpe Pottery, established in 1879 by John Harrison and managed by the designer Christopher Dresser, produced some of the most innovative art pottery of the Victorian era. Dresser — one of the first professional industrial designers in Britain — created a range of organic, asymmetric forms inspired by Japanese, pre-Columbian, and ancient Egyptian art. The pottery closed in 1889, but its wares are now highly sought after by collectors and are held in major museum collections.
- Albert Park, on the eastern edge of Linthorpe, is one of the finest Victorian parks in the north of England. Opened in 1868 by Prince Arthur, the park was designed by William Barratt and features formal gardens, a boating lake, a bandstand, and a statue of Hugh Bell — one of the founders of the Middlesbrough iron industry. The park is a Grade II listed landscape and is one of the most popular green spaces in Middlesbrough.
