About Largo
- Alexander Selkirk, born in Lower Largo in 1676, was the Scottish sailor whose experiences as a castaway inspired Daniel Defoe's novel Robinson Crusoe. Selkirk was marooned on the uninhabited island of Mas a Tierra in the Pacific Ocean in 1704 after a dispute with his captain, and survived alone for four years and four months before being rescued in 1709. A statue of Selkirk stands outside the cottage where he was born in Lower Largo.

- The railway viaduct that crosses the burn at Lower Largo is one of the most photographed structures in the East Neuk. The viaduct was built in 1857 for the East of Fife Railway and carried trains until the line closed in 1965. The arches of the viaduct now frame the view of the harbour and beach.
