About Moorsholm
- Moorsholm is one of the highest villages in the North York Moors National Park, sitting at over 700 feet above sea level on the open moorland of the Cleveland Hills. The village is exposed to the full force of the North Sea winds in winter, and the surrounding moorland is covered in heather and bracken. The views from the village take in the Tees Valley to the north and the open moors to the south.
- The Cleveland Way long-distance footpath passes close to Moorsholm, and the village is a popular starting point for walks on the Cleveland Hills. The path connects Moorsholm to the coast at Saltburn to the north and to the Esk Valley to the south, and the stretch of moorland above the village is one of the finest walking landscapes in the north of England.
- The moorland around Moorsholm is managed primarily for grouse shooting, and the heather moorland is burned in rotation to provide young growth for the grouse. The moors are an important habitat for upland birds including red grouse, golden plover, curlew, and merlin.
- Moorsholm has a small but active community, with a village hall and a pub that serve as focal points for local life. The village is one of several small moorland settlements in the Cleveland Hills that have maintained their character despite the economic changes of the 20th century.
