- Preston Mill, managed by the National Trust for Scotland, is one of the oldest and most complete water mills in Scotland and has been grinding grain since at least the sixteenth century. The mill's distinctive conical-roofed kiln and pantiled buildings are among the most photographed subjects in East Lothian, and the mill was used as a location in the television series Outlander.
- Traprain Law, the volcanic hill that rises dramatically above East Linton, was the capital of the Votadini tribe during the Iron Age and Roman periods and one of the most important settlements in southern Scotland. In 1919 a remarkable hoard of late Roman silver was discovered on the hill, including over a hundred pieces of silverware that had been cut up for melting. The Traprain Treasure is now displayed in the National Museum of Scotland.
- East Linton was the birthplace of John Rennie the Elder, one of the most celebrated civil engineers of the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. Rennie designed London Bridge, Waterloo Bridge, and Southwark Bridge, as well as numerous harbours, canals, and drainage schemes across Britain. A monument in the village commemorates his achievements.
