The tiny building, set in a peaceful churchyard on the edge of the village, is one of the most charming ecclesiastical buildings in the north of England.

  • Upleatham was the site of a medieval village that was largely depopulated in the 14th century, possibly as a result of the Black Death. The earthworks of the deserted medieval village are still visible in the fields around the church, and the tiny church is one of the few surviving buildings from the original settlement.
  • The village is within easy reach of Saltburn-by-the-Sea, one of the finest Victorian seaside resorts on the Yorkshire coast. Saltburn's cliff tramway — the oldest water-balanced cliff tramway in the world — connects the town to the beach below.
